Jenny Westaway

Jenny’s professional background is in local newspaper journalism, charity policy and campaigns, public sector communications, and public engagement. Her interest in health and care data developed while working in the media team for the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC), where she came to understand the importance of using information to improve health, care and services in ways that are safe, in line with public expectation and demonstrably trustworthy. This led her to work for the National Data Guardian for Health and Social Care, where she headed up the office supporting this statutory post until 2021.

Currently, Jenny also chairs the Patients Voices group for the Royal College of Anaesthetists and is a member of the National Data Guardian’s advisory panel.
