Dr Jonathan Osborn
Dr Jonathan Osborn is the Caldicot Guardian team member for the Advisory Group for Data (AGD).
About Jonathan
Jonathan is a practising GP and works part time at NHS England in the Caldicott Guardian Team. As such he is responsible for ensuring that patient data is used ethically and responsibly, in line with Caldicott Guardian handbook. Key to this is ensuring that the patient voice is heard and respected, and that UK health data is only used as patients would reasonably expect, so that people are able to trust the NHS with their confidential information. Jonathan joined NHS Digital in 2021 and moved into his current role when the organisations merged in 2023.
Following periods in research, an MBA and basic surgical training, Jonathan underwent training to be a GP, and gained membership of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons (England) and GPs. He is a Fellow of the British Computer Society and Institute of Directors, and is a Chartered Director. He holds the CIPP/E, and has a particular interest in the ethical build, and clinical safety, of artificial intelligence and is undertaking further training in this area in his spare time.
Jonathan has held roles in RCGP and BMA (Committee for Medical Managers), has been a CCIO of two CCGs, is on the Council of the College of Medicine, and a Trustee of Doctors in Distress.
