Alcohol dependence workstream Directions 2021
Directions given by NHS England requiring NHS Digital to operate a system for the collection and dissemination of information relating to the delivery of the alcohol dependence programme within NHS England and NHS Improvement's (NHSEI) prevention programme.
Purpose
The purpose of these Directions (Purpose) is to enable NHS Digital to provide support for the commitments in the NHS Long Term Plan (LTP) in relation to alcohol dependence treatment, including optimisation of hospital services that support alcohol dependent inpatients, specifically in the form of Alcohol Care Teams (ACTs). To deliver these commitments, NHS England
and NHS Improvement (NHSEI) is investing £24m by 2023/24 through the LTP, to optimise ACTs in hospitals with the highest rates of alcohol dependence related harm.
The data collected will support the NHS to appropriately offer services to individuals with the aim of reducing health inequalities.
Legal basis
254(1), (3) and (6), section 260, section 261(2)(e) and section 304(9), (10) and (12) of the Health and Social Care Act 2012.
