NHS Continuing Healthcare Directions 2022
Directions given by NHS England requiring NHS Digital to establish and operate information systems for NHS Continuing Healthcare Directions data collection.
This Direction and associated documents make reference to Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs).
In accordance with the Health and Care Act 2022 and the Health and Care Act 2022 (Commencement No. 2 and Transitional and Saving Provision) Regulations 2022, as of 1 July 2022, CCGs are abolished and their statutory obligations will be managed by Integrated Care Boards.
These obligations include all continuing requirements, including those to submit data to NHS Digital as set out in this Direction and associated documents.
Purpose
The purpose of these Directions is to allow monitoring of patients going through local appeals processes to ensure these are resolved quickly and to highlight Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) and Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) where high numbers of eligibility decisions are being overturned on appeal. The data set will allow linkage at patient-level to other data sets, so increased/reduced hospital admissions, medication and other important attributes are visible.
Legal basis
Sections 254(1), (3), (4), (5) and (6) , (7), section 260(2)(d), section 261(3)(a) and section 304(9), (10) and (12) of the Health and Social Care Act 2012.
These Directions come into force on 9 March 2022.
