General Practice Dashboard

The General Practice Dashboard (GPD) is hosted on the NHS Federated Data Platform (FDP). It features practice-level data across national priority indicators within 5 domains; access and experience, workforce, clinical outcomes and care quality, medicines management, and vaccinations and screening. Variation between practices is flagged based on defined thresholds and weightings.

The dashboard is being developed in phases and will contain 30+ indicators. It will also see ongoing development including the addition of contextual information, refinement of indicators, updates to its variation assessment system, and improvements to functionality and user interface.

The GPD is primarily designed for ICBs, as delegated commissioners of general practice services, to support them with their responsibilities for contractual management and improvement and transformation of services. It is to be used by ICBs alongside local information, indicators and intelligence to help identify unwarranted variation in general practice. It will also be used by NHS England to support its oversight and assurance activities.

NHS England regional approvers will review and approve access requests. All access requests must include a clear explanation of why access to the dashboard is needed and how the data will be used. If the justification does not meet expectations, the request may be denied. 

If you have not been granted access within 5 days, contact your regional approver. Approver details can also be found on the FDP home page, GPD tile, 'Open Project Information' page.   

Access to the GPD for general practices and primary care networks (PCNs) will be considered when the dashboard has gone through further development.

User feedback is crucial for enhancing the GPD, covering its usability, suggestions for new or improved indicators/metrics, and any data accuracy or accessibility issues. 31 July 2025 - Release 5. Updates in this release are:

• dashboard snapshots: development of cumulative monthly dashboard snapshots for improved historical analysis
• visual enhancements: introducing features to highlight positive and negative variations on metrics within the practice-level pop-up
• download functionality: adding a download button to the national summary variation and high variation by practice pages
• improved visibility: enhancing visibility of the latest indicator reporting period to ensure clarity on the data's currency
• GP medicines management: GPMM001 - Prescription of broad-spectrum antibiotics, GPMM002 - Prescription of non-preferred non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and GPMM003 - Prescription of high dose opioids per 1k registered patients
• GP access and experience: GPAE005 - Emergency ambulatory care sensitive (ACS) admissions per 1k registered patients and GPAE006 - Emergency admissions per 1k registered patients  
• GP clinical outcomes and care quality: GPOCQ010 - Emergency Cancer Admissions per 100 patients on the cancer disease register

User access to the private portal (dashboard) is strictly subject to the Dashboard End User Access Agreement. 

By accessing the data through the private portal, you are accepting the terms of the Dashboard End User Access Agreement. 

Data may be downloaded and analysed using other analytical tools but must not be shared outside the user’s organisation. 

Details on the datasets which power this dashboard are available in the Metric Summary page within the dashboard. The individual data publications will include accessible versions of the data.
