National Diabetes Audit and Diabetes Prevention Programme (NDA-DPP) pilot study
This pilot looked at how GP practices record information on non-diabetic hyperglycaemia, (pre-diabetes), to identify the best way to add this data to the National Diabetes Audit dataset.
Following a successful pilot the DPP data forms part of the National Diabetes Audit core data collection and publications.
Purpose of the pilot
From 2017-18, the National Diabetes Audit (NDA) will collect information on patients with non-diabetic hyperglycaemia, also known as pre-diabetes or impaired glucose regulation, so their care can be monitored and improved. This pilot investigated how non-diabetic hyperglycaemia information is being recorded so that we can identify how best to add it to the existing NDA dataset. We needed to find out how well read codes are populated, and get an understanding of the number of people with non-diabetic hyperglycaemia within practices.
Scope of the pilot
NHS England recruited 22 GP practices in England to take part in the pilot.
Partners
We worked with Diabetes UK and Public Health England to run this pilot collection.
