National Pregnancy in Diabetes Audit
The National Pregnancy in Diabetes (NPID) Audit aims to support clinical teams to deliver better care and outcomes for women with diabetes who become pregnant.
This audit is part of the National Diabetes Audit Programme where you can find information on the legal basis and governance of the audit.

NPID dashboard
This dashboard presents an interactive visual version of the service level report for maternity services.
We encourage services to review their entered data accordingly.
Gaining consent from patients for the NPID audit
Consent is no longer required for this audit unless you are a service based in the Isle of Man.
Services in the Isle of Man must still complete a consent form before a patient's data can legally be recorded.
However, all services must choose ‘yes’ for consent in order to enter a record – regardless of location.
Overview of the audit
The National Pregnancy in Diabetes (NPID) Audit measures the quality of pre-gestational diabetes care against NICE guideline based criteria and the outcomes of pre-gestational diabetic pregnancy.
The audit will answer the following three key questions:
- were women with diabetes adequately prepared for pregnancy?
- were appropriate steps taken during pregnancy to minimise adverse outcomes to the mother?
- did any adverse outcomes occur?
Data collection
The National Pregnancy in Diabetes Audit is a continuous collection so please keep collecting and entering your data into the Clinical Audit Platform (CAP).
The new data collection template for 2025 has now been released and can be downloaded from the 'User Documents' section of this page.
