Data collection and curation

Through central collection, curation and linkage of around 200 national data collections, we maintain a critical national asset for enabling better decision-making for direct care; commissioning, monitoring, evaluation and improvement of health services; policy-making; and research. We also support delivery of social care.

Data A-Zs

Our data sets and data collections are a systematic gathering of data or information from existing records held within health and care systems. Both are usually mandatory and submitted to a national organisation on a regular basis. They are used to improve the quality of care, health IT systems and/or local working practices.

Technical, data and information governance standards

Governing requests for data

NHS England takes the importance of information governance very seriously. The Advisory Group for Data (AGD) provides oversight of NHS England's processes to ensure they are appropriate for governing the receipt, processing and publication of data that does not compromise confidentiality and maximises the use of information.

Data tools and services

Our data tools and services allow you to access, review, monitor and extract data for analysis and reporting. Together with our systems and services, they help health and care professionals maintain and manage the information they need.
