Bed availability and occupancy
Bed availability and occupancy
NHS England collects data from all NHS organisations that operate beds, open overnight or day only. It publishes information on the average daily number of beds that are available and occupied by sector (including the Mental Illness sector) and by consultant specialty.
The Mental Health Services Monthly publication also contains data on the number of bed days, the number of bed days less leave and the number of bed days for children (aged 15 and under, 16 and 17) on adult wards in mental health hospitals.
Care Programme Approach (CPA)
Mental Health Community Teams Activity
The Quarterly Mental Health Community Teams Activity return collects data on the number of patients on Care Programme Approach (CPA) followed up within 7 days of discharge from psychiatric inpatient care, and the number of inpatient admissions gate kept by Crisis Resolution Home Treatment (CRHT) teams.

Mental Health of Children and Young People Surveys
The Mental Health of Children and Young People surveys provide England’s best source of data on trends in child mental health. Major surveys of the mental health of children and young people in England were carried out in 1999, 2004, and 2017 with a further follow up survey conducted in 2020 during the pandemic.
Dementia
Dementia Assessment and Referral
Information on the on the number and proportion of patients aged 75 and over admitted as an emergency for more than 72 hours in England who have been identified as potentially having dementia.
Information about people with dementia at each GP practice. This publication includes the rate of dementia diagnosis. As not everyone with dementia has a formal diagnosis, this statistic compares the number of people thought to have dementia with the number of people diagnosed with dementia, aged 65 and over.

NHS Talking Therapies data set publications
NHS Talking Therapies publications
Following a public consultation Improving Access to Psychological Therapy (IAPT) services have been renamed as NHS Talking Therapies for anxiety and depression. The data set will continue to be referred to as IAPT until the next uplift of the data set has received DAPB approval.
The NHS Talking Therapies programme is supported by a regular return of data generated by providers of NHS Talking Therapies services in delivering those services to patients. This data is received by NHS England and released as statistical publications covering activity, waiting times and patient outcomes such as recovery.
Perinatal mental health
Mental Health Services Monthly Statistics - NHS Digital
This publication series includes analyses of women in contact with mental health services who were new or expectant mothers. This is a quarterly release and is released as part of the Mental Health Services Monthly Statistics publication series.
More recently NHS Digital have also published data on the Number of people in contact with Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Community Services (12 month rolling). This provides data on the number of women accessing specialist perinatal or maternal mental health services in the previous 12 months.

Adult Psychiatric Morbidity Survey
The Adult Psychiatric Morbidity Survey (APMS) series provides data on the prevalence of both treated and untreated psychiatric disorders in the English adult population (aged 16 and over). This 2014 survey is the fourth in a series and was conducted by NatCen Social Research, in collaboration with the University of Leicester, for NHS Digital.

This dashboard provides interactive visualisations of the restraints data that is included in the Mental Health Services Monthly Statistics publication series.
Restraints data is reported in the Mental Health Services Monthly Statistics and Mental Health Bulletin publications. The publications include breakdowns of restraint types and demographic data relating to the person being restrained.

Out of Area Placements

The Government set a national ambition to eliminate inappropriate Out of Area Placements in mental health services for adults in acute inpatient care by 2020-21. Inappropriate OAPs are where patients are sent out of area because no bed is available for them locally, which can delay their recovery. This NHS Digital collection is currently the official source of data on this subject for England.
