Directly age and sex standardised mortality rate from respiratory disease for people aged under 75 in the respective calendar year per 100,000 registered patients.
March 2022: This indicator uses ICD-10 codes J00-J99 to identify the cause of death as respiratory disease. In 2020, following guidance from WHO, new ICD-10 codes U07.1 (COVID-19, virus identified) and U07.2 (COVID-19, virus not identified) were introduced to record deaths from COVID-19. Deaths recorded under these COVID-19 codes are excluded from indicator 1.6 and consequently its data for 2020 should be interpreted with care. As of the March 2019 release the processing of the Primary Care Mortality Database (PCMD) and the standard population used to calculate the indicator for new data periods changed; this file now contains only those data periods processed under the new method.
