National Diabetes Audit - Integrated Specialist Services (NDA ISS) Survey 2023

Summary

NHS England is directed by the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care to collect and analyse data in connection with the National Diabetes Audit (NDA) including the Integrated Specialist Services (ISS) survey, which is part of the NDA programme of clinical audits.

The ISS survey was added to the National Diabetes Audit (NDA) programme in 2020, replacing previous NDA diabetes care surveys. It is an organisational survey that collects information from all specialist services across the NDA programme, encompassing all modules and workstreams.

Highlights

Overview

The ISS survey is based on the recommendations in the Getting It Right First Time Diabetes Report (opens in PDF format) and for pregnancy on NICE Quality Standard 109 – Diabetes in Pregnancy.

Specialist diabetes services in England and Wales that deliver diabetes care are in scope to complete the survey.

The ISS survey is conducted at hospital site level and carried out on an annual basis in October. Submitters were asked to complete the survey with information relating to their service as of 1st October 2023.

Services must submit within a submission window, which is communicated to key contacts ahead of the collection and updated on the ISS survey webpage

ISS Survey 2023

For 2023, all data from the ISS survey is presented in an Excel workbook. The data is shown at hospital site level alongside an ‘England and Wales’, ‘England’ and ‘Wales’ summary.

The data is categorised into the following sections:

  • Data (whether the organisation collects and submits data to the NDA)
  • Type 1 (whether recommendations are in place for people with type 1 diabetes)
  • Inpatient (whether recommendations are in place for inpatients with diabetes)
  • Foot care (whether recommendations for foot care are in place)
  • Maternity (whether recommendations are in place for pregnant women)
  • Procurement (whether sites work together to improve care and finances)
