Publication, Part of National Diabetes Audit: Young People with Type 2 Diabetes
Young People with Type 2 Diabetes, 2022-23
Summary
The Young People with Type 2 Diabetes audit aims to document the number of people with type 2 diabetes up to the age of 40 years, their patient characteristics and the diabetes care they receive. This is important because adverse diabetes and cardiovascular outcomes are more common in people who develop type 2 diabetes at an earlier age and it is thought the numbers of affected individuals are increasing.
For this dashboard the cohort was split into the following age groups for certain analyses: ’less than or equal to 18 years’, ’19 to 25 years’ and ’26 to 39 years’ to reflect childhood and the early stages of adulthood. These age groups were compared to ‘40 to 59 years’ and ‘60 to 79 years’ age groups to understand trends across all ages. The latest version of the dashboard reports on data collected for people in the 2022 and 2023 audit years. Data are submitted by services in England and Wales.
Highlights
The data files which support the dashboard can be downloaded from the 'Resources' section of this page. These data files include the measures presented in the dashboard, split by national, regional, ICB/LHB and PCN level.
Disclosure control has been applied to mitigate the risk of patient identification. Zeros are reported, and all numbers are rounded to the nearest 5, unless the number is 1 to 7, in which case it is rounded to 5. This allows for more granular data to be made available. Rounded numbers are used to calculate percentages therefore numbers may not sum as expected. Percentages are not calculated where the rounded denominator is 20 or less, and where numbers are small percentages are volatile and should be treated with caution.
