This is the second of a series of PROMs special topics produced on a quarterly basis. The data presented is based on 2009-10 finalised data and the provisional 2010-11 and 2011-12 data sets. Further details concerning these data sets can be found via the links on the left-hand side.
Patient level data has been made available for the first time in order to support the existing aggregated PROMs publication. The risk of identifying specific patients has been controlled through banding ages and suppressing information where necessary. The patient level data gives organisations the ability to undertake analysis at a greater level of granularity. Going forward, provisional data will be updated on a quarterly basis until that data year is finalised at which point a final data set will be published.
Only records that have a completed pre-operative questionnaire, a completed post-operative questionnaire and that are linked to HES are included in the data set. For a record to be included within the data set there must be more than five patients that have undergone the same procedure, have the same gender and fall into the same age banding1. Each record will contain the actual pre- and post operative scores from the questionnaires as well as the predicted score from the casemix adjustment. Where a record does not contain a predicted score one or more of the components of the casemix adjustment model may not have been completed either in the pre-operative questionnaire or in the HES record.
