Provisional Accident and Emergency Quality Indicators for England, March 2025, by provider

The measures included in this publication report on data coverage in ECDS compared with the emergency monthly situation reports MSitAE published by NHS England and NHS Improvement. They also report statistics for total time in A&E, time to assessment, time to treatment, A&E attendances that left before treatment and unplanned reattendances within 7 days. Each report contains national figures and provider level figures.

From the January 2023 release, the format of the publication was updated to open data format following a review and consultation. We are continuing to improve publications, please let us know if you have any feedback using the survey link below.

2.22 million A&E attendances for March 2025 at all types of A&E

in ECDS however, ECDS data are incomplete; around 2.39 million A&E attendances were reported in the NHS Situation Report data collection for the month

9 minutes was the median average time to initial assessment

for attendances brought to A&E by ambulance, with 95 per cent of patients being assessed within 1 hour 1 minutes. For all patients receiving treatment, the median average time to treatment was 1 hour 7 minutes with 95 per cent of patients receiving treatment within 5 hours 22 minutes.

2 hours and 49 minutes was the median average total time in A&E for all patients

with 95 per cent of patients departing A&E within 14 hours 44 minutes of arrival.

4.7 per cent left A&E before being seen for treatment

and 9.1 per cent of attendances in A&E were unplanned re-attendances within 7 days of a previous attendance.
