Summary

The Improving Access Psychological Therapies (IAPT) data set is a regular return of data generated by providers of IAPT services in the course of delivering these services to patients. The data also includes information from Independent Sector Organisations who are also providers of NHS IAPT services.
The IAPT data set is received by the Health and Social Care Information Centre as record-level anonymised data from patient administration systems.

A separate monthly publication comprises national and provider level data quality measures of some key data items in the IAPT dataset and the latest release can be accessed in the related links below.

 

Experimental analysis by CCG and month for Q1 2013/14 was added to this release on 18 November 2013 for assurance purposes.  We welcome feedback on the usefulness and relevance of presenting the data in this way.

 

In addition on 18th November a typographical error was corrected in the Data Quality statement and in the IC_Derivations tab of the Commissioner and Provider level analysis.

 

Highlights

This release of experimental analysis from IAPT Q1 data, April 2013 to June 2013 shows that:

  • 129 providers were successful in submitting data to the dataset, compared with 115 in Q4 2012/13.
  • In the quarter there were 241,250 new service requests, compared with 219,950 in the previous quarter.
  • 158,620 service requests "entered treatment" by receiving their first treatment appointment in the quarter, an increase of 21,880 from Q4 2012/13.
  • 78,640 service requests completed treatment in the quarter, after a minimum of two treatment appointments, compared to 63,940 in the previous quarter.
  • 96 per cent of completed treatments (including at least 2 attended treatments) had a paired Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ9) score while 93 per cent had relevant paired Anxiety Disorder Specific Measure (ADSM) scores.
  • 43 per cent (30,360) of service requests with completed treatment, which were at "caseness" at the start of their treatment, moved to recovery.  In addition to this 58 per cent (45,740) of service requests with completed treatment showed reliable improvement.
  • 41 per cent (29,030) of service requests with completed treatment, which were at caseness at the start of their treatment, showed reliable recovery in the quarter.
