Service Search API - versions 1 and 2

Find information about NHS healthcare services, including lists of NHS organisation types, organisations, and coronavirus (COVID 19) walk-in sites. 

Overview

Use this API to find information about NHS services, including lists of NHS organisation types, organisations, and coronavirus (COVID 19) walk-in sites.

  • search for NHS organisation types, for example, GP practices, hospitals

  • search for NHS organisations that provide services listed in NHS service near you, for example, Leeds General Infirmary

  • search for coronavirus (COVID 19) walk-in sites

Who can use this API

These APIs can only be used where there is a legal basis to do so. Make sure you have a valid use case before you go too far with your development. 

You must do this before you can go live (see 'Onboarding' below).



API status

This API is in production.


Service level

This API is a bronze service, meaning it is operational and supported only during business hours (8am to 6pm), Monday to Friday excluding bank holidays.

Technology

The API is RESTful.

The API supports search using either HTTP GET or HTTP POST.

It is not hosted on our API platform


Network access

This API is available on the internet and, indirectly, on the Health and Social Care Network (HSCN).

Security and authorisation

This API is application-restricted, meaning we authenticate the calling application but not the end user.

Your request must include a subscription-key header with a valid subscription key. Login or register with the NHS website developer portal to get your subscription key.
