GP2GP Requesting Adaptor
Use this adaptor to create Electronic Health Record (EHR) requests and translate the responses from HL7 V3 into FHIR format.
Overview
Use this adaptor to transfer patients' electronic health records between old and new practices when they change GPs.
You can:
-
include large records and those with many attachments
-
reduce paper printing when patients leave a practice
-
receive Electronic Health Records (EHR) in HL7 V3
-
convert FHIR EHRs into HL7 V3 messages
-
respond to sending systems with acknowledgment messages
For more details, see GP2GP.
Adaptor status and version
This adaptor is in development.
The adaptor comes in two parts with versioning unified:
- translator: This container performs the transfer asynchronously
- facade: This container exposes a HTTP API to start and query the status of transfers.
Technology
This adaptor is released as a container image with both ARM64 and AMD64 images.
The facade container provides an internal RESTful FHIR API for starting and monitoring transfers.
Deployment and integration
Deployment
You can deploy this adaptor where you like, for example, in a public or private cloud environment.
The operating guidance outlines what infrastructure and environment variables need to be configured.
All integration test activities are to be performed within a Path To Live environment. These activities include development, integration, deployment and non-functional tests.
To set up and configure Path to Live connectivity, see Path to Live environments.
Onboarding
This adaptor enables access to national NHS Systems. You need to configure it to integrate with the relevant NHS environments.
You need to get your software approved by us before it can go live with this adaptor. We call this onboarding. The onboarding process can sometimes be quite long, so it's worth planning well ahead.
For more details, see onboarding.
Operating and administration
Find out how to operate this adaptor in your own infrastructure in our GitHub repository and our documentation repository. This covers areas such as log consumption, tooling, audit and other topics.
