Eileen Phillips worked in communications at the BBC, the Royal College of Nursing and the General Medical Council, before joining NHS Connecting for Health as Head of Media in 2007. In 2014 Dame Fiona Caldicott, the previous National Data Guardian (NDG), asked her to join her advisory panel.  She continued on the panel when Dr Nicola Byrne became NDG in 2021, advising on communicating with the public about health and care data sharing.
