Repair a smartcard in Care Identity Management
Step-by-step guidance on how to repair a smartcard in Care Identity Management.
Which roles can do this?
- Registration Authority Manager
- Registration Authority Agent (Advanced)
- Registration Authority Agent
- ID Checker*
* ID Checkers cannot repair the smartcards of Registration Authority Managers, Registration Authority Agents (Advanced) or Registration Authority Agents.
First you must insert the smartcard you want to repair into a second card reader.
From the Care Identity Management home page, choose 'Service smartcard'.
You will now see the details of the user's smartcard. From the service options at the bottom, choose 'Repair smartcard certificates'.
Note: the smartcard service options you see will depend on your role.
Make sure the smartcard you want to repair is inserted into a second smartcard reader.
You'll see an option to add a passcode to the smartcard as you repair it.
If the smartcard holder is with you, you can ask them to choose and enter their new passcode.
If the smartcard holder is not with you, you should repair the smartcard in a locked state. The user will be able to unlock the smartcard when they receive it.
Select 'Continue'. You may now see a screen showing the steps the service is going through to repair the smartcard.
Finally, if the repair is successful, you'll be taken to the user's profile page and you'll see a 'Smartcard repaired successfully' message.
