Change a user's personal or contact details

How to change a user's name, phone number, email and other details.

Which roles can do this?

  • Registration Authority Manager
  • Registration Authority Agent (Advanced)
  • Registration Authority Agent
  • ID Checker
  • Sponsor - via request

Note: if a user profile was created in the Electronic Staff Record (ESR), you should manage that profile in ESR. If you use Care Identity Management to make changes to an ESR-created profile, the changes may be overwritten by ESR.


From the Care Identity Management home page, choose 'Find an existing user'.

Enter the user's details and press Search.

Choose 'View profile' on the right of the screen.

On the user details screen, each item that you can edit will have a 'Change' link to the right. Choose this link to edit the relevant detail.

To change most details you can simply enter the new information and press 'Update' to confirm it.

However, if you change a user's given or family name, you will be asked to provide a reason for the change.

Once you have pressed the button to confirm the change, you'll see a success message.
