NHS Care Identity Service - Release 11.4
CIS Auth release 11.4 - Tuesday 5 August 2025
Overview
We are releasing an update to CIS Auth services on Tuesday 5 August 2025 between 2pm and 5pm.
There will be no downtime and smartcard authentication is not affected.
This release includes:
- a warning message for legacy Identity Agent users that their connection may be at risk due to out of date software.

The warning message will read as follows (or similar wording):
From Monday 18 August, Care Identity Service will begin phased blocking of traffic to Smartcard Authentication where deprecated TLS (1.0/1.1) is detected. Please contact your IT teams to ensure you have the latest Identity Agent and Credential Management versions to avoid authentication issues. Next outage: Monday 18 August, 15:00-15:15. Find out more.
How to remediate
If you see the warning message above, please immediately get in touch with your local IT team to upgrade your software.
If you are a supplier supporting the NHS or responsible for the IT at an NHS organisation and you are requested to support, please follow these actions for guidance.
