CIS2 Authentication Release 10.0

Details of CIS2 Authentication Release 10.0.

Release date 27 January 2025 (subject to final testing).

Passkeys available in private beta

We are trialling a passkey solution as an additional authentication method with a pilot group of health and care organisations. You may see this as an option when you log in to systems such as the National Care Records Service (NCRS) or the e-Referral Service (e-RS).

Authenticating with a passkey is only available to individuals participating in the private beta. If you wish to enrol your organisation in the private beta, fill in this form or email us at [email protected] for more information.

What this means for you

Health and social care professionals:

  • when you log into several applications (including the National Care Records Service, e-Referral Service and, soon, Cervical Screening Management System), you may see an additional 'Passkey' authentication option

  • selecting this option will only succeed for individuals enrolled as part of the pilot

Organisations providing IT support for health and social care professionals:

  • should experience no change

Health and social care application suppliers:

  • should experience no change

Registration Authorities:

  • should experience no change

Why we are doing this

We are trialling a new authentication solution in order to learn more about improvements we can make to the authentication experience for health and care professionals.
