CIS2 Authentication release 10.06
Release date 9 June 2025 (subject to final testing).
Passkeys available as a new way to authenticate
In our 10.0 release, we added synced passkeys as an additional authenticator option for some organisations, in a private beta.
After positive feedback from these organisations, we are now making passkeys available as an authenticator for all organisations.
You can:
- read more about passkeys in CIS Authentication
- read guidance on how to register or remove a passkey as a Registration Authority user
You can also email us at [email protected] for more information.
What this means for you
Health and social care professionals:
-
You can self-register a passkey for use with the National Summary Care Records Service, e-Referral Service or Cervical Screening Management System.
Organisations providing IT support for health and social care professionals:
- Should experience no change.
Health and social care application suppliers:
- Should experience no change.
Registration Authorities:
- You will see 'Passkey' as an available authenticator when binding non-smartcards authenticators in Care Identity Management.
Why we are doing this
Feedback from the private beta has shown passkeys require fewer steps to log in for compatible devices, improving the authentication experience for health and care professionals.
