ESR authentication issues

What to do if you're having problems authenticating into the Electronic Staff Record (ESR).

The issue

You are having problems authenticating into ESR. This may be despite being able to successfully authenticate into ESR previously.

Resolution

This may be related to the migration of ESR to CIS2 Authentication. As part of this, users must install NHS Credential Management.

You can use the setup checker tool to establish whether NHS Credential Management is installed.

Admin rights are needed to install NHS Credential Management. If you do not have admin right, talk to your local IT team. You can find out more in our guidance on how to set up a smartcard workstation.
