iPad device registration validation errors

How to understand registration validation errors shown by the iPad app and how to reset your iPad authenticator registration.

You were redirected to this page because an error occurred while validating your iPad device registration, and you are using the NHS CIS2 iOS app version v1.8.0 onwards.

Causes of validation errors

Validation errors are due to one or more of the following reasons:

  • the device has been deregistered or removed from the associated user's profile in Care Identity Management
  • the user who was previously registered has had their user profile closed in Care Identity Management
  • the device's biometrics (Touch ID / Face ID) have been changed since the device was registered
  • another device has been registered on the associated user's profile in Care Identity Management

If the application detects that one or more of the above is the case, this will cause a device registration failure.

Except for a change in biometrics, if you are not aware of any of the above scenarios being applicable to you, then you must contact your Registration Authority (RA) for help.

If your biometrics have changed

If your biometrics were changed on the device locally, this would be indicated by the error code 8015 returned during validation. In this scenario, you would need to perform a new device registration, by:

  • performing a device reset using the app
  • re-registering your authenticator using Care Identity Management

You can either use the self-service functionality in Care Identity Management, or you can ask your RA to register this for you.

How to remove an invalid registration

Once you are sure that one or more of the above scenarios are applicable, you can then proceed to reset the device by going back to the app, and then selecting the 'Reset Registration' button.

See the video below to understand how to do this.

Validate a registration

Whilst authenticating using the NHS CIS2 iOS app, if you obtain an error code 1011 (on app versions < 1.8.0) and error codes 8000, 8001, 8009, 8010, 8015 on other app versions, then your registration may no longer be valid.

This can occur due to any of the reasons mentioned above under causes of validation errors.

The registration can be validated using the 'Validate Registration' button on the NHS CIS2 iOS app, as long as you are on iOS app version 1.8.0 and above. See the video below.
