Child Protection Information Sharing (CP-IS) guidance for RA Managers
Historically, the scope of CP-IS has included only emergency and unscheduled care settings. When a relevant member of healthcare staff has accessed a child’s record, a notification is returned to a Local Authority, notifying them that a child under their jurisdiction has accessed an unscheduled service.
From April 2023, CP-IS broadened its scope to include some scheduled care settings. Following a programme of extended pilot activity and testing, it has been agreed that not all healthcare settings should generate a notification when a child attends the service. Primarily, this is to ensure the relevance of the unscheduled attendances are maintained and to minimise the volume of unrequired notifications.
There are two options when seeking to add CP-IS functionality to a user’s Smartcard.
Existing code: B0107 – View CP-IS Flag
Description
For use by staff working in appropriate roles, usually within unscheduled1 and emergency care settings.
For example: emergency departments, urgent treatment centres, or out of hours services.
The code should be applied to Smartcards where relevant staff are working in an unscheduled setting, in-scope for CP-IS and where access to safeguarding information is required.
This code will generate an Access to Service Notification (ASN); notifying the responsible Local Authority that the child has attended an unscheduled service. The most recent twenty-five attendances will be available to view by users accessing the system.
New code: B0170 – View CP-IS Flag (Without sending an Access to Service Notification – ASN)
Description
For use by staff working in appropriate roles, usually within scheduled care1 settings.
For example: primary care – general practice, or 0-19 school nurses.
The code should be applied to Smartcards where relevant staff are working in a clinical setting, in-scope for CP-IS, and where access to safeguarding information is relevant, but it is NOT desirable that an Access to Service Notification (ASN) is returned to a Local Authority
This code will NOT generate an Access to Service Notification (ASN); This means that the responsible local authority will not be notified that the child has attended this Care service. Likewise, these attendances are not available to view by system users.
