Data Registers Service

A service that provided a trusted source and location for 'data registers' - live lists of reference data for things like NHS organisations and workers.

Retired service

The Data Registers Service was retired on 4 September 2023 and is no longer available for use.

About data registers

Data registers were live lists of data, each managed by a custodian across a range of organisations. They represented the approved version of that data. They were also commonly known 'lookup' tables and used to categorise data in databases. Examples included organisation codes, postcodes and diagnosis codes.

The objective was to ensure consistent definitions of data over time and between data repositories, organisations or processes. A data register stored data elements that included both semantics and representations.
