Displaying Care Quality Commission ratings in the NHS e-Referral Service

Upcoming changes to the NHS e-Referral Service and the Manage Your Referral patient website to include Care Quality Commission (CQC) rating.

The CQC is an independent regulator of health and adult social care in England who monitor, inspect and regulate services.

CQC rate health and social care services on a four-point scale:

  1. Outstanding
  2. Good
  3. Requires improvement
  4. Inadequate

To give patients more information to support their choice, CQC ratings will be displayed in e-RS on the service selection search screen and the Manage Your Referral (MYR) patient website after 15 March 2024 (subject to final testing).

Where a rating is unknown the text 'No available rating' will be displayed along with a link to the CQC website.

As part of this change the NHS Choices column, shown in e-RS on the service search screen, will be removed.
