Falsified Medicines Directive implementation toolkits
Guidance toolkits were developed for healthcare providers to help prepare for the implementation of the Falsified Medicines Directive.
Retired service
The Falsified Medicines Directive implementation toolkits service was retired in December 2020 and the toolkits are no longer available for use.
Overview
NHS Digital and stakeholders from across the medicines supply chain worked together to implement a national system to ensure compliance with the FMD. We were led by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) and the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), and collectively known as the National Competent Authority (NCA).
We were commissioned to develop guidance toolkits for healthcare providers to help them prepare for the implementation of FMD.
As the UK has exited the EU, the ‘safety features’ element (serialisation) of the EU Falsified Medicines Directive (FMD) ceased to have effect in Great Britain from 31 December 2020.
