How to view National Record Locator documents

The National Record Locator (NRL) allows health and care workers find and access a patient's documents shared by other organisations across England, to support the direct care of a patient.

Roles with permission to view NRL documents

Roles with these role-based access control (RBAC) codes can view NRL documents:

  • B0268 – view 'pointers' to documents
  • B0269 – view document pointers and access documents

If your organisation would like to be able to view NRL documents, contact [email protected] for onboarding information.

How to view NRL documents

You can view NRL documents on the ‘Documents’ panel from the ‘Overview’. When you click on ‘Documents’, there is a table of document pointers which show:

  • when the document was added
  • the type of document
  • which organisation uploaded the document and their contact details
  • the clinical setting that the organisation works in
  • a link to the document
