Standards for NHS App integration
To ensure consistent, quality services in the NHS App.
Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2
As a minimum, you must meet the AA standard of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2.
The accessibility of your service will inform decisions throughout your integration.
Step 4 of the NHS App web integration process requires you to provide evidence that you meet all of the integration requirements. This includes an accessibility audit of the product that you are integrating into the NHS App. The gov.uk website provides guidance on getting an accessibility audit. All products integrated into the NHS App are required to be compliant with WCAG 2.2 AA.
As part of your preparation for an NHS App integration, and to help you understand whether your product meets the WCAG2.2 standard, we recommend that you accessibility test your code. This will help you understand any issues that an audit could identify so you can take proactive steps to address them. The gov.uk website provides guidance on how to approach this and the automated test tools you could use.
