Testimonials from GP practices and primary care networks about online registration
The Roseland Surgeries, Cornwall - Nicola Davies, Practice Manager and Director of the Institute of General Practice Management.
The Register with a GP surgery service is straightforward for practices to use, with no formal training required.
It fits in around our existing processes to welcome a new patient to our practice, for example arranging medication reviews for new patients with repeat prescriptions.
The catchment area check is a really useful service feature, as it provides practices with control over those registering, saving valuable administration time usually spent manually checking if a patient lives in catchment.
In my practice we have received really good feedback from patients as they no longer feel the need to contact our team during opening hours regarding registration – it’s given them an option that wasn’t previously available and saved the need for a trip to the surgery which is often unnecessary.

Northdown Surgery, Margate - Danielle Wonford, Reception Manager
Before using the online registration service, our surgery was using paper registration forms, and asking patients to bring them back to us on certain days of the week in a small timeframe when it wasn't so busy. Now that we are using the online service, patients are able to submit a registration form at any time of the day, from the comfort of their own home instead of having to make the trip to the surgery. It is also much quicker for patients to fill it out with only the relevant information needed.
It is so much easier to complete a registration now due to the nature of it being online. The digital information is much easier to read as I don't need to try to understand rushed handwriting. It used to take me around 10 minutes to register a patient, but now it takes around 5 minutes.

Biddulph Primary Care Centre, Staffordshire - Louise Moston, Practice Administrator
The online registration service is a great way for our patients to save time. Instead of having to come into the practice and fill out the forms, take them away and then bring them back, they can do the whole thing remotely.
This is also saving time for our staff who would have previously handed out paper registration forms and then had to register the patients manually.
Really great service and very easy to enrol, we were up and running in just a few hours.

Healthy Crawley Primary Care Network, Sussex - Megan Birch, Digital Transformation Lead
Setting up online registration for the practices was so quick and easy, and it saves time for our admin teams on a daily basis.
The time saved from not having to photocopy papers at the front desk has reduced queues in reception, and our registration clerks really appreciate the massive reduction in time spent interpreting patients’ handwriting. When they tell patients they can register online, they usually prefer to do this rather than stay at the front desk and fill in paper forms.
The NHS England team have also developed the service since we first signed up, taking on feedback from surgeries about the questions that needed including on the form and plugging some of the gaps we initially identified with the service.
We’re onboarding another practice in our PCN next week – they already had a digital solution on their website but the amount of calls they had to make to patients to verify information was proving a challenge, so they’re very much looking forward to the national service cutting down on some of that workload.

Holycroft Surgery, Keighley - Dr Matt Curtis, GP
Being able to register online saves people a trip into the practice to collect a paper registration pack, and it also saves time for our staff team as the information goes direct into the GP workflow seamlessly, making the process easier for everyone.
Our group of GP practices in Airedale, Wharfedale and Craven have been working closely with local community groups to support patients to get online and discover new ways to manage their health and wellbeing. The feedback is really positive - more and more people are gaining confidence to use digital tools for accessing health services.

Sunderland GP Alliance Medical Practice - Judith Taylor, Head of General Practice
Online registration saves time for our staff as the information goes directly into the workflow.
It also saves time for our patients. In our original process they had to collect a registration pack, take it home to complete it and then bring it back - this saves them an additional trip to the practice.
We have digital champions within each of our practices who take the lead on digital initiatives including registrations. We invested in iPads and now, rather than inviting patients to complete paperwork, our friendly champions take them to a side room to register them online.

Hazeldene Medical Centre, Middlesex - Dr Jahan Mahmoodi, GP Principal
People are very happy to register with us digitally and find it really straightforward – for example a patient registered with us online this morning and by the afternoon had already uploaded a photograph of their skin condition as part of an online consultation.
Using the new online service has also nearly halved the time it was taking for our staff to register our patients (47%). Our registration team have referred specifically to the PDS matching of the new registrations we receive. As we can match patients with their record, including their NHS number, via the Spine, they can access all of our NHS services immediately.

Holbrooks Health Team - Saravanan Maheswaran, Primary Care Network Admin Lead
I highly recommend the NHS Register with a GP surgery service for anyone looking to simplify and streamline their registration process. It's a brilliant fusion of efficiency, convenience, and modern technology, ensuring that patient needs always come first and it saves a lot of time for the NHS.
Cleevelands Medical Centre, Cheltenham - Katie Howard, Practice Manager
Our patients have found it very revolutionary, as it’s so user-friendly and they can use it on the go.
It saves our surgery staff between 3 to 5 minutes per patient. When you consider we get 25 registrations a day, that is a significant amount of time we are saving to invest back into the patients.
