Our response

In response we provided:

  • count of adults aged 18 or over with a diagnosis of learning disability or autism who are detained under the following sections of the Mental Health Act 2, 3, 37, 38, 37/41, 47, 47/49, 48 as at 31 March 2025
  • data is split by organisation type, into NHS providers (NHS trusts and care trusts) and independent providers (including independent sector healthcare provider sites and Non-NHS organisations)
  • AT is a commissioner based collection recording patients whose care is commissioned by English commissioners, and it includes a small number of patients in independent hospitals in Wales or Scotland. It does not include patients in hospital in England who are commissioned from other nations. There are around 30 patients in hospital in Wales or Scotland in this data
