COVID-19 Related Cancer Research
Data Provision Notice to provide NHS Digital with cancer data from a number of Public Health England (PHE) controlled cancer-related data sets.
Overview
The National Cancer Programme has identified a requirement for expert analyses to support policy setting, service planning and recovery modelling as well as quantifying the longer term implications, and understanding the direct and indirect impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the NHS and cancer patient outcomes.
The data to be supplied to NHS Digital by Public Health England will be used in collaboration with other stakeholders to enable research into the effects of COVID-19 on cancer referrals, services, diagnosis, pathways, treatments, and outcomes using the Trusted Research Environment (TRE), hosted by NHS Digital.
Scope
This Notice is served on:
- Public Health England
in respect of data relating to:
- Cancer Registrations
- Radiotherapy
- Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy
- Rapid Cancer Registrations
- Early Diagnoses (through the Rapid Diagnostic Centre minimum data set).
Period
The period for the collection will be:

Change control
Update: 5 August 2021: Version 3.0 of the Notice has been issued to reflect an extension of the Form (one additional data set) and the removal of cancer pathways analysis as a key purpose.
