Data Provision Notice to require the submission of activity data from NHS organisations to support planning and coordination of resources and services to support the COVID-19 response.

Overview

The data collected is information required by the NHS to understand the demands COVID-19 is placing across the health care sector nationally. It is information that does not already exist or must be collected in a more timely and efficient manner if it is to provide the insight needed to enable the NHS to coordinate resources and services appropriately.

Scope of the collection

This Notice is served on:

NHS acute trusts
NHS ambulance trusts
NHS community and mental health trusts
NHS commissioned independent hospitals
NHS commissioned community inpatient service providers
NHS community health service providers

COVID-19 Public Health Directions 2020

A Direction given by the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care requiring NHS Digital to establish and operate information systems to collect and analyse data in connection with COVID-19, and develop and operate information and communication systems to deliver services in connection with COVID-19.

Collection

Individual SitReps have started at various times since 20 March 2020.

The collection of data for each relevant SitRep will continue until such time as the SitRep is withdrawn. The additional or removal of a SitRep will be notified through an update to this Notice.

2024

7 October 2024: COVID-19 Weekly NHS Provider SitRep Collection and COVID-19 Weekly Independent sector Provider SitRep Collection have been retired, the data are no longer required.

COVID-19 Daily NHS Provider MHLDA SitRep and the COVID-19 Daily Independent Provider MHLDA SitRep have been retired from this DPN. COVID related data items have been removed. The remaining data items will be collected under the MHLDA Directions: Mental health services Directions 2020 - NHS England Digital. The MHLDA sitreps have been moved to a separate independent DPN.

July 2024: Removal of C19SR10 – COVID-19 Daily Community Discharge SitRep. This collection has moved to the Community Services Data Set Direction and has an independent DPN

February 2024: Removal of C19SR13 Covid NHS Staff Lateral Flow Test (LFT) no requirement to monitor distribution nor collect data.

March 2024: Removal of C19SR03 - Covid 19 Daily Patient Discharge SitRep - this collection has moved to the Health Care Operational Data Flows Direction and has an independent DPN. This Notice has been updated to introduce a reduction of data items in the C19SR07 - COVID-19 Daily Independent Provider MHLDA SitRep and C19SR07 - COVID-19 Daily NHS Provider MHLDA SitRep The C19CSR13 - Cov-19 NHS Staff LFT has been retired from this notice as the data is no longer needed. This Notice has been updated to introduce a reduction of data items in the C19SR09 - COVID-19 Weekly NHS Provider SitRep and C19SR06 - COVID-19 Weekly Independent Provider SitRep.

11 July 2023

This Notice has been updated to remove the COVID-19 Long COVID Assessment Clinic Activity SitRep.

12 June 2023

This Notice has been updated to remove the NHS Provider Daily SitRep. In addition, the templates for the NHS Provider Weekly, the NHS Staff LFT and the Long COVID SitReps have changed as questions have been taken out. It is also noted that the Community Daily Discharge collection has changed frequency to weekly. All sample templates for current SitReps have been refreshed on this page.

2022

29 September 2022: This Notice has been updated to remove the Covid-19 Daily 111 Staff SitRep. In addition, the template for the COVID-19 Daily Community Discharge SitRep has been restructured to allow a logical flow of the weekly questions, with some data items removed and some added. Finally within the Community Health Services SitRep, question 3 has been changed to allow users to leave rows blank where only a limited number of reasons could be recorded. Data submitters have been notified of these changes.

7 July 2022: This Notice has been updated to reflect removal of questions in the Daily Community Discharge, Daily Patient Discharge and Weekly NHS Provider SitReps. In addition, there is updated guidance in relation to NHS Staff LFT and a technical change to the Long COVID Assessment Clinic Activity template to remove macros. Finally, the Community Health Services SitRep has had one new question added, 4 questions removed and definitions and values changed in 2 questions. Data submitters have been notified of these changes.

25 April 2022: this Notice has been updated to introduce template changes to the Long Covid Assessment Clinic Activity SitRep removing 3 data items (both adult and paediatric).

3 March 2022: this Notice has been updated to introduce template changes to 2 sitreps: Daily Patient Discharge; Community Daily Discharge. Data submitters have been notified of these changes.

18 January 2022: this Notice has been updated to introduce template changes to 3 sitreps: Weekly ISP Activity; Daily ISP MHLDA Activity; Daily NHS MHLDA Activity. Data submitters have been notified of these changes.

2021

8 December 2021: this Notice has been updated to introduce template changes to the Weekly NHS Provider SitRep and the Weekly Independent Provider SitRep. In addition, the version number of the most current template has been added.

22 October 2021: this Notice has been updated to remove the COVID-19 Weekly Mobile CT Scanners SitRep which has been retired.

14 September 2021: this Notice has been updated to remove the CHC Deferred Assessments SitRep which has been retired. In addition, the ISP Daily SitRep has been removed as provision has been made within the ISP Weekly SitRep to submit the daily breakdowns on a weekly basis.

9 August 2021: changes have been made as follows:

COVID-19 Weekly Independent Provider SitRep – redesigned to show a breakdown of data per site and Commissioner.
COVID-19 Daily 111 Staff SitRep – change from daily reporting to weekly reporting with a daily breakdown.
COVID-19 Daily NHS Provider SitRep – added questions on primary diagnosis.
COVID-19 Daily Community Discharge SitRep – added more pathway locations.
COVID-19 Daily Patient Discharge SitRep – added more pathway locations.

12 January 2021: This Notice has been updated to add new SitReps for Staff Lateral Testing and Long COVID Assessment Clinic Activity. These apply to Acute, Ambulance and Mental Health trusts, and NHS providers of long covid (post-COVID-19) clinic services.

2020

17 November 2020: This Notice has been updated to add a new SitRep for Community Health Services. This applies to all NHS funded providers of community health services.

16 September 2020: This Notice has been updated to add a new SitRep for CHC Deferred Assessments. This applies to Clinical Commissioning Groups.
