National Paediatric Diabetes Audit

Data Provision Notice to request the submission of English and Welsh data from the National Paediatric Diabetes Audit, to allow the monitoring of the transition of young people to adult diabetes services, through linkage with data held by NHS England's National Diabetes Audit programme.

Overview

The data specified in this Data Provision Notice is required to support a direction from NHS England and a request from Digital Health and Care Wales.

The data the National Paediatric Diabetes Audit (NPDA) is collected by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) and relates to any child or young person receiving care from a paediatric diabetes service in England and Wales up to the age of 25.

The data will enable NHS England to undertake linkage between the NPDA and the National Diabetes Audit (NDA) which is managed by NHS England, to help evaluate the care of patients who transition from children to adult diabetes services. The aggregated findings of this evaluation will be published by NHS England as the Adolescents and Young Adults (AYA) Audit (formerly known as the Transition Audit).

In addition, NHS England will use the data to design a future report looking at type 2 care for young people (under the age of 40). This report will focus on care processes and treatment targets, as set out in the AYA Audit, as well as demographic information relating to where these patients are being seen and how many are being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

National Paediatric Diabetes Audit (NPDA) data for England relating to Hybrid Closed Loop (HCL) technologies will be collected quarterly and linked to the NDA Core data set to measure uptake, equitable access and effectiveness of HCL devices as part of NHS England’s Hybrid closed loop technologies: 5-year implementation strategy.

  • Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership (HQIP) as data controller for the NPDA (both England and Wales)
