NHS Surplus Land data collection
Data Provision Notice to require the submission of surplus land data from NHS trusts.
Overview
The NHS Surplus Land collection has existed since 2008 and was originally designed to provide information to the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), Homes England and the Office of Government Property (OGP) regarding sites that can be disposed of, thereby contributing to the Public Land for Housing Programme.
The collection currently monitors the contribution, made by the NHS, to the release of publicly owned land to ensure the efficient and strategic use of the NHS estate.
From 2020-21 onwards, reporting has been undertaken, by data providers, on a live collection system on an “as needed” basis. Its aim is to provide more up to date and transparent information to the public and reduce the burden on data providers.
Scope of the collection
This Notice is served on:
- all NHS trusts (including ambulance trusts and NHS Property Services) in England
Period
The collection is a "live collection" and remains open throughout the year to allow updates to be made by NHS trusts and NHS Property Services. Data is extracted at the end of each financial quarter following a validation period and is analysed and published as soon as possible.
In line with the Code of Practice for Official Statistics, NHS England aims to keep the period between collection and publication as short as possible. However, a validation exercise must be undertaken before data can be deemed suitable for release.
Updates
4 September 2023
Version 2.0 of this Notice issued to reflect the legal and organisational changes which came into effect on 1 July 2022 and 1 February 2023 and to broaden the scope of the Notice so it is no longer specific to the 2018-19 collection.
