Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) Risk Assessment Data Provision Notice
Overview
The purpose of this data collection is to quantify the numbers and proportion of hospital admissions aged 16 and over who are being risk assessed for Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) within 14 hours of admission, to allow for the administering of appropriate prophylaxis based on national guidance from the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE).
This collection ensures that every patient aged 16 and over has a documented VTE risk assessment within 14 hours of admission to hospital, and that this risk assessment is conducted in accordance with clinical risk assessment criteria that reflect NICE clinical guideline. This collection enables performance in risk assessment to be reported and monitored nationally.
Scope of the collection
All providers of NHS funded acute hospital care (including foundation trusts and independent sector providers of acute NHS services).
Period
The data is collected quarterly.
Updates
The collection was deferred during the pandemic and reinstated in April 2024.
