Tier 3 weight management services

All adult and children tier 3 weight management services are in scope of the National Obesity Audit (NOA).

All data will be submitted to the Community Services Data Set (CSDS) from April 2022.

All staff who will be submitting to CSDS must register. Read about registering and submitting to CSDS. 

Participation in NOA is a mandated requirement through the NHS standard contract 2020/21 (service condition 26) for NHS organisations and organisations commissioned by the NHS.

We are working closely with The Society of Endocrinology Tier 3 obesity database to ensure that providers which use this database will be able to generate an extract which can be used to submit directly into the CSDS for use in NOA. 

The Society of Endocrinology Tier 3 obesity database dataset is larger than that of the audit, but it will be clear which fields in the wider dataset are required for submission to NOA.

The Complications related to Excess Weight clinics (CEW) are not conventional Tier 3 weight management services as these clinics work with children who suffer from health conditions as a result of living with overweight and obesity. These services are used to treat the condition of the patient, rather than provide them with weight management services and submit their data separately to the CEW dataset. Therefore, CEW clinics are not in scope of the audit and are not required to submit to CSDS dataset.
