Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Audit (CVDPREVENT)
CVDPREVENT is a national primary care audit that will automatically extract routinely held GP data, via GPES. It will provide a foundation for professionally led quality improvement in individual GP practices across Primary Care Networks (PCNs).
Background
NHS England collects data in connection with Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Audit referred to as CVDPREVENT Audit. Data was first collected for the year 2019-20 and then became a quarterly extract.
CVDPREVENT is a national primary care audit that will automatically extract routinely held GP data, via GPES, covering diagnosis and management of six high-risk conditions that cause stroke, heart attack and dementia:
- atrial fibrillation (AF)
- high blood pressure
- high cholesterol
- diabetes
- non-diabetic hyperglycaemia
- chronic kidney disease
It provides a foundation for professionally led quality improvement in individual GP practices across Primary Care Networks (PCNs). It supports primary care in understanding how many patients with the high-risk conditions are potentially undiagnosed, undertreated or over treated.
The data helps highlight gaps, identify inequalities and monitor improvement and impact on inequalities, as well as enabling opportunities for improvement in diagnosis and management of the high-risk conditions for CVD.
A number of organisations are involved in the work, including The Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP), The National institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID), NHS England, British Heart Foundation, Royal Pharmaceutical Society, Primary Care Cardiovascular Society and GP representatives.
