Official statistics
Changes in this series
Change of data source for registered patients and resulting change to practice-level CSV
The data source for practice registered patient counts used in this series was up until February 2024 National Health Applications and Infrastructure Services (NHAIS) . However, this source has been decommissioned and from this release onwards, this information is now extracted from Personal Demographics Service (PDS).
Unlike NHAIS, the new data source includes counts of patients whose gender is unknown. For this reason, a new column labelled TOTAL_UNKNOWN_GENDER has been introduced to the detailed practice-level CSV presenting counts of these patients at each practice.
Forthcoming changes
New job roles
Two new job roles relating to the general practice workforce were recently added to the National Workforce Reporting Service (NWRS) and will be included in these statistics for the first time in the General Practice Workforce, 30 April 2024 release. They are:
- Osteopath
- Trainee Pharmacy Technician
Renaming of existing job roles
High Intensity Therapists and Trainee High Intensity Therapists were recently renamed in NWRS as NHS Talking Therapies Therapists and Trainee NHS Talking Therapies Therapists respectively. These name changes will be reflected in the General Practice Workforce, 30 April 2024 release.
