Mental Health Services Monthly Statistics Final March, Provisional April 2021

A correction has been made to this publication on 15 June 2021. This amendment relates to the STP breakdowns for Children’s access to mental health services statistics in the MHSDS Annual: April 2020 to March 2021 MHSDS Data File. No other information is affected by this issue. The corrected files are indicated by a Version 2 (v2) suffix. NHS Digital apologises for any inconvenience caused.

As part of an improvement initiative, the two existing Restrictive Interventions measures (MHS76 and MHS77) were supplemented by four new measures (MHS96, MHS97, MHS98 and MHS99) from Performance April 2021 onwards and made available in a standalone 'Restrictive Interventions New' CSV File.  Further information is available here.  This CSV file has now been generated for historic monthly reporting periods for each month between September 2020 and March 2021.

Two updates to the methodology used to produce MHS95 (Number of Children and Young People aged under 18 supported through NHS funded mental health with at least one contact (12 month rolling)) have been made.

The first affects the 'CCG; Provider' breakdown and rectifies an issue which meant that not all relevant 'CCG; Provider' activity was being counted in the data originally released.

The second is a refinement to better record the activity undertaken in anonymous providers such as Kooth plc (previously known as XenZone Ltd).

Revised data for March, April and May 2021 using the new methodology is now available within v2 of the MHSDS Monthly Children and Young People and Perinatal CSV files.  Data for June 2021 onwards uses the new methodology.

An issue was previously identified in the data contained within the Provider; Specialised Commissioning Service; Restrictive Intervention Type; Gender of the MHSDS Monthly: End of Year Final March 2021 Restrictive Interventions New CSV file.  As a result, this breakdown was temporarily removed from the file. The issue has now been resolved however, and the breakdown reinstated.  NHS Digital apologises for any inconvenience.
