Summary
The Breast and Cosmetic Implant Registry (BCIR) records the details of any individual who has undergone breast implant surgery, so that they can be traced in the event of a product recall or other safety concern relating to a specific type of implant. Data collection started in England in late 2016, in Scotland in 2019 and in Northern Ireland in 2021.
The purpose of this report is to provide information on the uptake of the registry. It does not provide a comprehensive view of the number of breast implant operations undertaken. It provides an overview of the data collected between January and December 2022 and includes some historical data from the start of the registry in 2016. Information in this report represents data that was extracted from the registry on 08 February 2023.
