Summary

This statistical report, co-authored with the UK Health Security Agency (UKSHA), reports childhood vaccination coverage statistics for England in 2022-23.

Data relates to the routine vaccinations offered to all children up to the age of 5 years, derived from the Cover of Vaccination Evaluated Rapidly (COVER). Additional information on children aged 2 and 3 vaccinated against seasonal flu are collected from GPs through UKHSA's ImmForm system.


Key Facts

Vaccination coverage decreased in 2022-23

Coverage decreased for 12 of the 14 vaccine coverage measures reported in 2022-23. 

Decreases were between 0.1 and 1.2 percentage points compared to the previous year.

No vaccines met the 95% target

The last vaccination with coverage above 95% was the 5-in-1 one vaccine at age 5 years, 95.2% in 2020-21.

MMR1 coverage remains below the 95% target.

MMR1 coverage at 5 years decreased to 92.5%, the lowest level since 2010-11.

MMR2 coverage at 5 years decreased to 84.5%, the lowest level since 2010-11.

MMR1 coverage at 24 months rose to 89.3% in 2022-23, an increase from 89.2% the previous year.

All coverage measures decreased at age 5 years.

5-in-1 coverage at 5 years had largest year on year decrease in 2022-23, falling to 93.2%, the lowest level since 2008-09.

Hib/MenC coverage also had its largest year on year decrease in 2022-23, falling to 90.4%, the lowest level since 2011-12.
