Summary

This statistical release makes available the most recent NHS Talking Therapies for anxiety and depression monthly data, including activity, waiting times, and outcomes such as recovery.

NHS Talking Therapies is run by the NHS in England and offers NICE-approved therapies for treating people with depression or anxiety. This release also includes statistics about NHS Talking Therapies employment advisor services.

Highlights

Changes to employment status measures

A methodological change has been made for some measures related to employment status. Where the person is unemployed, SicknessAbsenceInd is no longer considered in counts for the for the following measures: M318, M322, M326, EA052, EA056, EA278. SicknessAbsenceInd is now taken into account where the person employment status is unknown for the following measures: M319, M323, M327, M331, EA053, EA057.

133,908 referrals to NHS Talking Therapies

90.3% of referrals accessed NHS Talking Therapies within 6 weeks

98,889 referrals accessed NHS Talking Therapies

8.5 sessions of treatment on average per referral

57,359 referrals completed a course of treatment

48.4% of referrals reliably recovered

68.7% of referrals finishing a course of treatment showed reliable improvement

36,414 Internet Enabled Therapy sessions took place

22,051 referrals received their first integrated care contact

7,190 referrals attended an initial employment support appointment

Please note that these numbers reflect activity in the month and are not all based on the same group of referrals.

The proportion of referrals starting treatment within 6 weeks, mean treatment session, reliable recovery rate, and the reliable improvement rate are based on referrals completing a course of NHS Talking Therapies treatment in the month.
