Summary

Patients undergoing elective inpatient surgery for hip and knee replacement, funded by the English NHS are asked to complete questionnaires before and after their operations to assess improvement in health as perceived by the patients themselves. This publication is for Provisional Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) in England - April 2019 to September 2019.

Highlights

97.7% of hip replacement patients reported an improvement in health

This was reported on the Oxford Hip Score

95.2% of knee replacement patients reported an improvement in health

This was reported for the Oxford Knee Score

The participation rate is 72.4% for hip replacements

There were 40,049 hip replacement procedures and 29,005 pre-operative questionnaires returned.

The participation rate for knee replacements is 75.8%

There were 46,972 knee replacement procedures and 35,595 pre-operative questionnaires returned.
