Data Quality
This section presents information for a variety of data quality measures for 2022/23 and across the previous 12 years. For further information about data quality measures, please consult the Data Quality Statement, which accompanies this publication.
Proportion of unknown data items
The proportion of quit attempts where the outcome is unknown is 18% in 2022/23. This has increased for the second year in a row from 16% in 2020/21. This is the third lowest level in the last 12 years. Before then, the proportion of quit attempts where the outcome is unknown had decreased annually from 23% in 2014/15.
The proportion of records with a missing socio-economic code is 12% in 2022/23. This figure has increased gradually since 2019/20 (8%). Prior to this the proportion of records with a missing socio-economic code remained consistent at 9% from 2015/16 to 2018/19.
There was a sharp increase in the proportion of records with an intervention setting categorised as 'Other' from 2019/20 to 2020/21 (3% and 10% respectively). This proportion increased again in 2021/22 to 12%. In 2022/23, the proportion of records with an intervention setting categorised as 'Other' has decreased to 9%.
The proportion of records where ethnic group was not stated has increased gradually since 2019/20 (4%) to 2022/23 (7%). 2022/23 was the first time since before 2010/11 that this figure has been greater than 6%.
Non-submitting local authorities
12 LAs did not submit any data for 2022/23. Some non-submitting LAs will still be running Stop Smoking Services but not submitting data. Some LAs will no longer be running Stop Smoking Services. For other non-submitting LAs it is not possible to ascertain which category the LA falls into. The non-submitting LAs in 2022/23 are: Bolton, Bromley, Bournemouth, Chistchurch and Poole, City of Bristol, Cheshire East, Cumbria, Ealing, East Riding of Yorkshire, Hartlepool, Shropshire, Trafford, and Wolverhampton.
No estimates have been made for the LAs not submitting data.
