Women known to be smokers at time of delivery
Percentage known to be smokers by year
9.0% of pregnant women were known to be smokers at the time of delivery during quarter 2 of 2021-2022.
The percentage between quarter 2 and quarter 1 remained similar,
The current national ambition is to achieve a level of 6% or less by 2022.
Percentage known to be smokers by Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG)
In quarter 2 of 2021/2022, the lowest proportions of women known to be smokers at time of delivery were in NHS West Essex CCG (2.0%), NHS North West London CCG (2.9%) and NHS Castle Point and Rochford CCG (3.3%).
7 CCGs had proportions above 15%. Those with the highest were NHS North East Lincolnshire CCG (20.0%), NHS Blackpool CCG (19.3%) and NHS Greater Preston CCG (17.0%).

Percentage known to be smokers by Clinical Commissioning Group, compared with the national ambition
In quarter 2 of 2021/2022, 15 out of 106 submitting CCGs met the national ambition of 6% or less.
In the London NHS England region, it was achieved by all 5 CCGs, but only by 10 CCGs outside of London.
