Statistics on Women's Smoking Status at Time of Delivery, England - Quarter 2, 2018-19

10.5% of pregnant women were known to be smokers at the time of delivery during quarter 2 of 2018/19.

This is similar to 10.4% for the previous quarter (quarter 1, 2018/19).

The current national ambition is to achieve a level of 6% or less by 2022.

In quarter 2, the CCGs with the lowest proportion of women known to be smokers at time of delivery were NHS West London (2.3%), NHS Central London (Westminster) (2.6%) and NHS Ealing (2.7%).

5 CCGs had proportions above 20%. Those with the highest were NHS North East Lincolnshire (24.9%), NHS Blackpool (24.5%) and NHS Mansfield and Ashfield (23.2%).

In quarter 2 of 2018/19, 31 out of 195 CCGs met the new national ambition of 6% or less.

In the London NHS England region, 21 out of 32 CCGs achieved the national ambition.

In the North NHS England region, 1 out of 62 CCGs achieved the national ambition.
