CIS2 Authentication Release 9.05

Details of CIS2 Authentication Release 9.05.

Release date 6 January 2025 (subject to final testing).

IF-DLP retired

Our service previously allowed users to authenticate to the Data Landing Portal (DLP) over the internet, using a username and password.

This internet-facing DLP login (IF-DLP) was a legacy feature of the service and has since been replaced. The feature is disabled as of 6 January 2025 in line with our deprecation notice.

What this means for you

Health and social care professionals:

  • can authenticate to the Data Landing Portal with their Care Identity or their NHS England Applications account - see the registration process

Organisations providing IT support for health and social care professionals:

  • should experience no change

Health and social care application suppliers:

  • should experience no change

Registration Authorities:

  • may be contacted by DSCROs or former IF-DLP users to request a Care Identity be set up for them

Why we are doing this

We are removing a legacy feature in line with the deprecation notice.

Accepting terms and conditions

All users issued with a Care Identity who use CIS2 Authentication to access applications are bound by our terms and conditions of service.

We have updated our "Select your login method" page to make our terms and conditions easier to find, and to clarify that all users implicitly agree these terms every time they authenticate.

What this means for you

Health and social care professionals:

  • may notice the below text when they select their authenticator, which links to the latest published terms and conditions

CIS2 Auth new terms and conditions link highlighted

Organisations providing IT support for health and social care professionals:

  • should experience no change

Health and social care application suppliers:

  • should experience no change

Registration Authorities:

  • may receive queries around the additional text on screen
  • should experience no changes to working patterns currently expected for Registration Authorities
  • following a later Care Identity Management release, will be able to confirm which version of the terms and conditions a user has agreed to by authenticating

Why we are doing this

We require users to accept our terms and conditions in order to use their approved NHS authenticator (e.g. smartcard, Windows Hello) across various applications and services. This change will make this more transparent to health and care professionals.
